Buying Servers keys

Want to buy Windows Server? HypestKey sells genuine Microsoft Windows Server product keys in Datacenter, Standard and Essentials editions, along with the client access licenses and SQL Server keys that usually go with them. Every product activates directly on Microsoft’s servers. We have been selling Microsoft licenses since 2020 and have delivered more than 30,000 of them.
What this category covers

Windows Server: the server operating system, every version and edition we stock in one list.
Windows Server CALs: Remote Desktop Services client access licenses for 2019, 2022 and 2025.
SQL Server: SQL Server Standard 2012, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.

Windows Server editions
Microsoft Windows Server ships in three main editions. Standard handles regular workloads and gives you rights to two virtual machines (OSEs) when all physical cores are licensed. Most businesses pick this one. Datacenter removes the virtualization limit, so you can run as many virtual servers as your hardware supports. Essentials fits small businesses and branch offices with up to 25 users and 50 devices.
We stock these versions:

Windows Server 2025: Standard and Datacenter, the current release
Windows Server 2022: Standard, Datacenter and Essentials
Windows Server 2019: Standard, Datacenter, Essentials and RDS user CAL bundles
Windows Server 2016: Standard, Datacenter, Essentials and CAL bundles
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2: for legacy systems only, Microsoft support ended October 10, 2023

Server 2022 brought stronger security tools and hybrid cloud options, and Server 2025 builds on that. Older versions still do the job when an application needs them.
System requirements
Microsoft’s minimum hardware for recent Windows Server versions:

Processor: 1.4 GHz 64-bit (production workloads run much better on faster, multi-core chips)
RAM: 512 MB for Server Core, 2 GB for the Desktop Experience, and realistically much more for real work
Disk: 32 GB minimum, more if you plan to run Hyper-V virtual machines
Network: a gigabit Ethernet adapter, with PXE support if you deploy over the network
Display: 1024 x 768 or higher (only needed for the Desktop Experience)

TPM 2.0 is needed for some security features, such as Secured-core server, but not for a basic installation. Larger builds benefit from NVMe storage and 64 GB of memory or more. Check your server model’s specifications before ordering.
What Windows Server does for your business
Windows Server runs file sharing, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and your own business applications. Remote Desktop Services lets many users work on one server at the same time. Storage Spaces Direct (Datacenter edition) pools ordinary drives into highly available storage. VPN, routing and load balancing come built in.
Cloud integration works through Azure Arc. Companies that run other Microsoft products, such as Exchange or SQL Server, get the best compatibility. Windows Server fits any size, from a small office server to a full data center.
How licensing works
Since Windows Server 2016, Microsoft licenses Standard and Datacenter by physical processor cores. Each server needs at least 16 core licenses, and each processor at least 8. A two-socket server with 8 cores per socket is covered by a 16-core license. More cores means more core licenses. Hyper-threading creates logical cores, but only physical cores count.
Client access licenses (CALs) are separate. Each user or device that connects to the server needs a Windows Server CAL, and each one that uses Remote Desktop also needs an RDS CAL. Both per-user and per-device types exist; see Windows Server CALs.

Common questions
Standard or Datacenter, how do I choose?
Running one or two VMs per host? Standard works. Many virtual machines on the same hardware? Datacenter usually costs less overall. The core operating system is the same in both.
How does core licensing work?
Count the physical cores in the server and license all of them, with a minimum of 16 per server and 8 per processor.
Can I move my license to different hardware?
Microsoft’s terms allow a license to be reassigned to new hardware, but generally not more often than once every 90 days, except when the original hardware fails permanently. Contact us if you need help with a move.
What is new in Windows Server 2022?
Secured-core server support, better container handling, SMB compression and Azure hybrid management through Azure Arc. It is worth the upgrade if security matters to you or your current servers run a version that is out of support.
