Buying Windows Server 2022 keys

Looking to buy Windows Server 2022 for your business? This page explains the editions, the licensing model and what to budget for, so you can pick the right license for your organization. Every key comes with instant delivery to your email and activates with Microsoft.
Windows Server 2022 editions
Microsoft’s Windows Server 2022 comes in two main editions, Standard and Datacenter, plus Essentials for small businesses. Each one fits different needs and has its own price point.
Windows Server 2022 Standard is right for businesses with limited virtualization. It gives you rights to two virtual machines per fully licensed server and includes the core security features, such as Secured-core server support, TLS 1.3 enabled by default and DNS over HTTPS on the client side.
Windows Server 2022 Datacenter adds unlimited virtualization rights and advanced features such as Storage Spaces Direct, software-defined networking and shielded virtual machines. For organizations running many virtual workloads, Datacenter usually gives better value despite the higher price. Hotpatching for 2022 is limited to the Datacenter: Azure Edition, which runs on Azure and Azure Stack HCI.
Windows Server 2022 Essentials is for small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices. It does not need separate CALs for those users.
All keys we sell are genuine and come from legitimate distribution, so you are not putting your infrastructure at risk with a cracked or tampered installation.
Licensing model and cost calculation
Standard and Datacenter use core-based licensing. Every server needs at least 16 core licenses, and every physical processor at least 8. Beyond the 16-core base, extra cores are licensed in 2-core packs.
Client access licenses are required for each user or device that accesses the server. The Windows Server CAL is a basic part of your licensing. If you use Remote Desktop Services, you also need RDS CALs to stay compliant. We stock the Remote Desktop Services 50 User CAL and the Remote Desktop Services 50 Device CAL for 2022.
Licensing example:

A server with 24 physical cores running Standard needs:

the 16-core base license
four additional 2-core packs
user or device CALs for everyone who connects

We never share your card details with third parties or sell your information. Payments run through Stripe, and the card number never reaches our servers.
Features by edition
Standard includes:

Two OSEs or Hyper-V isolated containers per license, plus unlimited Windows Server containers
Storage Replica limited to one partnership and a single volume of up to 2 TB
Hyper-V, Active Directory, file and storage services, and Windows Admin Center support
The same memory and processor limits as Datacenter (up to 48 TB of RAM)

Datacenter adds:

Unlimited OSEs and Hyper-V isolated containers
Storage Spaces Direct and unrestricted Storage Replica
Software-defined networking
Shielded virtual machines with the Host Guardian Service

If you run a lot of virtual workloads, Datacenter usually pays off once a host carries more than a handful of VMs. Microsoft’s Azure Hybrid Benefit can lower cloud costs by reusing on-premises licenses in Azure, but it requires Software Assurance, which is a separate Microsoft volume program and not part of a retail key.
Hyper-V isolation for containers adds a security boundary around each container. Plan your disk space too: Windows Server 2022 needs at least 32 GB for installation.
Volume licensing and larger orders
Microsoft also sells Windows Server through volume programs such as the Enterprise Agreement and CSP, often bundled with Software Assurance. Software Assurance adds upgrade rights to new versions, disaster recovery rights and some training benefits for an annual fee.
Our keys are one-time licenses without Software Assurance. For a larger order of server keys or CALs, write to support@hypestkey.com before you buy, and we will confirm stock and the right mix of products.
Installation and activation
Your order email contains the product key and the official Microsoft download link for the ISO. Write it to a USB stick or mount it in a virtual machine, choose Standard or Datacenter (Server Core or Desktop Experience) during setup, and enter the key when asked. If you install first, add the key later in Settings or with slmgr /ipk, then activate with slmgr /ato. Keep the server online for activation, or use phone activation on an isolated network.
Support and lifecycle
Microsoft’s mainstream support for Windows Server 2022 ended on October 13, 2026, and extended support with security updates continues until October 14, 2031. Extended Security Updates become relevant near the end of a product’s lifecycle and are bought separately from Microsoft.
Our own support covers activation and key problems. We answer by email and live chat. If a key does not work, we fix it or send a replacement.
Other costs to plan for:

Training for IT administrators
Migration from older servers
Hardware upgrades
Ongoing maintenance
