What ShowKeyPlus Does

ShowKeyPlus reads the Windows registry and BIOS firmware to extract product keys. It displays three types of keys:

• Installed Key is your current Windows activation key stored in the registry
• OEM Key is embedded in your BIOS/UEFI by the PC manufacturer (Windows 8 and later)
• Original Key shows the key from your previous Windows version if you upgraded

The tool also validates keys. Enter any Windows or Office product key, and ShowKeyPlus tells you which edition it belongs to. Useful when you have old keys and forgot what they are for.

Supported Windows Versions

ShowKeyPlus works with Windows 11 (all editions including Home, Pro, Enterprise), Windows 10 (full support, detects LTSC and N editions), Windows 8/8.1 (retrieves BIOS-embedded OEM keys), and Windows 7 (key checking only, full retrieval needs older version 1.0.7060).

How to Use ShowKeyPlus

View Your Product Key

Download the executable. Run it. That is all. ShowKeyPlus opens and shows your keys immediately. No menus to navigate, no setup wizard. Keys appear on screen within two seconds of launch.

Save Keys to File

Click Save in the menu. Choose TXT for plain text or HTML for a formatted report. The HTML export includes styling, good for documentation. TXT works better for scripts and batch processing.

Check a Product Key

Click the Check Product Key link. Paste any Windows or Office key. ShowKeyPlus connects to Microsoft servers and returns the edition that key belongs to. Helps verify keys before reinstallation.

Retrieve Key from Backup

Have a Windows.old folder or system backup? ShowKeyPlus can extract keys from those too. Click Retrieve Key from Backup, point it to the folder containing the Windows directory, and it pulls the key from that installation.

The Installed Key is your current Windows activation key. The OEM Key is embedded in your computer BIOS/UEFI firmware by the manufacturer. On pre-built PCs with Windows 8 or later, these may differ. ShowKeyPlus shows both so you can use whichever you need.
