Short answer: To screenshot on an Asus laptop, press Windows + Shift + S and drag over the area. Windows + PrtSc saves a file instead. On many Asus keyboards we hold Fn, because PrtSc is shared. Models without the key use Fn + Windows + Space. Files go to Pictures\Screenshots.
To screenshot on an Asus laptop, press PrtSc in the top row, with Fn when the key is shared. Many Asus notebooks also print a screen capture icon on F11 that opens the capture tool. Windows + PrtSc saves the whole screen as a file.
Some gaming models have no PrtSc key at all. Those use Fn + Windows + Space, or Windows + Shift + S.
- PrtSc: the whole screen to the clipboard; add Fn if the key is shared.
- Windows + PrtSc: the whole screen saved as a PNG file at once.
- Alt + PrtSc: only the active window, to the clipboard.
- F11 with the capture icon: the screen capture tool, on models that print it there.
- Fn + Windows + Space: a saved screenshot on keyboards without the key.
- Windows + Shift + S: part of the screen, a window or the full screen.
- Snipping Tool: delays, text actions and screen recording.
- Windows + Alt + PrtSc: the active app through Xbox Game Bar.
The shortcuts are Microsoft’s, from Keyboard shortcut for print screen and Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots.

Finding the key on an Asus keyboard
Asus prints the key as PrtSc and places it in the top row on the right. On compact VivoBook and ZenBook models it often shares a key. Some ROG and TUF gaming models don’t have it.
| Line | Where PrtSc is | What to press |
|---|---|---|
| VivoBook, ZenBook | Top row on the right, often shared with another label | PrtSc, or Fn + PrtSc if shared |
| ROG, TUF with a PrtSc key | Top row on the right | PrtSc |
| ROG Zephyrus and other models without the key | Nowhere | Fn + Windows + Space, or Windows + Shift + S |
| Full-size Asus keyboard on a desktop | Its own key | PrtSc |

The function key lock
Asus laptops can lock the top row to either the special functions or the F-keys. On most recent models we toggle it with Fn + Esc; the lock symbol on the Esc key marks the combination.
| Lock state | Top row | A shared PrtSc |
|---|---|---|
| Functions first | Brightness, volume and the rest work without Fn | Needs Fn |
| F-keys first | F1 to F12 work without Fn | Works without Fn |
MyASUS, the maker’s own app, has the same switch under its keyboard settings on many models. The manual of the model is the final word.
The screen capture hotkey on an Asus laptop
Asus puts a capture key in the top row of many notebooks. In its keyboard FAQ the layout is F11 for the screen capture tool and F12 for MyASUS, with F10 for the camera.
| Key | What Asus lists |
|---|---|
| F11, capture icon | Activates the screen capture tool |
| F12 | Launches the MyASUS app |
| F10 | Turns the camera on or off |
| Fn + Esc | Switches the function keys feature |
Not every model follows it. Asus shows other layouts too, the UX325JA and the GA403UU among them, and says the hotkeys differ by model. Look for the icon, not the number. The user manual of your model has the final layout.

PrtSc shortcuts to screenshot on an Asus laptop
| Keys | Result | With a shared key |
|---|---|---|
| PrtSc | Whole screen to the clipboard | Fn + PrtSc |
| Windows + PrtSc | Whole screen saved as a PNG file | Fn + Windows + PrtSc |
| Alt + PrtSc | Active window to the clipboard | Fn + Alt + PrtSc |
A clipboard capture shows nothing on screen. Paste it with Ctrl + V into Paint or a chat to see it.
C:\Users\YourName\Pictures\Screenshots
With OneDrive’s folder backup on, Pictures sits inside OneDrive. Every folder by method is in where screenshots go on Windows 11.
Models without a Print Screen key
Several ROG Zephyrus and some ZenBook keyboards drop the key to make room. Nothing is lost.
| Need | Without PrtSc |
|---|---|
| Whole screen as a file | Fn + Windows + Space, from Microsoft’s shortcut page |
| Part of the screen | Windows + Shift + S |
| One window | Windows + Shift + S, Window mode |
| A game in full screen | Game Bar: Windows + G, or Windows + Alt + R for video |
Gaming models also carry Armoury Crate, Asus’s own overlay, which can bind a capture key of its own. Its settings show whether it took one.
Hotkeys or F1 to F12 in Asus Keyboard Hotkeys
Whether F11 needs Fn depends on one setting. Asus ships a small app for it, Asus Keyboard Hotkeys, and on newer models the same switch moved into MyASUS.
- Hotkeys. The default. F11 runs the capture tool on its own.
- F1 to F12. F11 acts as F11, and the capture icon needs Fn.
Type Asus Keyboard Hotkeys in the search bar to open it. In MyASUS it’s under Device Settings, in the input device part, as the Fn function key status.
Fn + Esc flips the same switch, on models that support it. An LED on the Fn key tells you yours does. Use it, and MyASUS follows along.
Everything else is standard Windows: the Snipping Tool, Game Bar and the rest, in how to screenshot on Windows.
Asus 2-in-1s and touch screens
On a VivoBook Flip or ZenBook Flip with the keyboard folded away, open the Snipping Tool from Start and drag the selection with a finger or the pen. Microsoft gives Power + Volume Up for most Windows tablets; we try it once on a detachable and fall back to the Snipping Tool.
Pasting, editing and printing
A capture on the clipboard needs a home. Any of these takes it with Ctrl + V.
| App | Good for |
|---|---|
| Paint | Cropping, a quick arrow, saving as PNG or JPEG |
| Word or Outlook | Putting the picture straight into a document or an email |
| Teams, Discord, WhatsApp on the web | Sending it as a message |
| The Snipping Tool editor | Pen, highlighter, crop, text actions |
To print a saved screenshot, Microsoft’s page says to right-click the file in its folder and select Print. With Windows + V we open the clipboard history, so a second capture doesn’t erase the first.

FAQ
How do I screenshot on an Asus laptop?
Press Windows + Shift + S and drag over the area. Or press Windows + PrtSc to save the whole screen as a file. We add Fn when the PrtSc key is shared.
Where is the Print Screen key on an Asus laptop?
In the top row on the right, printed PrtSc. On compact models it shares a key, and some ROG gaming models have no PrtSc at all.
How do I screenshot on an Asus laptop without a Print Screen key?
Microsoft's shortcut page gives Fn + Windows + Space for keyboards without the key. Windows + Shift + S works on any keyboard, and we'd make that the habit.
Why doesn't PrtSc work on my Asus laptop?
Usually the key is shared and needs Fn, or the function lock was toggled with Fn + Esc. On gaming models, Armoury Crate may have taken the key. The Windows 11 setting that opens the Snipping Tool is the next thing we check.
Where do screenshots go on an Asus laptop?
Windows + PrtSc and the Snipping Tool save to Pictures\Screenshots. Game Bar saves to Videos\Captures. With OneDrive backup on, Pictures is inside OneDrive.
How do I screenshot a game on an Asus ROG laptop?
Press Windows + Alt + PrtSc for a picture of the game, or Windows + Alt + R to record it. Both go through Game Bar and land in Videos\Captures. We check Armoury Crate's hotkeys if nothing happens.
Does Asus have its own screenshot tool?
Not one that's needed for everyday captures. Armoury Crate on gaming models can bind a capture key, and MyASUS holds the function lock switch. The Windows shortcuts cover the rest, and we'd learn those first.
