Windows 11 Enterprise is the edition Microsoft builds for managed company PCs: everything in Windows 11 Pro, plus Credential Guard, Personal Data Encryption, locked-down desktop controls and 36 months of support for each annual feature release. This Windows 11 Enterprise key activates one 64-bit PC, with no subscription and no expiry. I look after a fleet of office machines, so this page is written the way I would brief another admin: what Enterprise really adds, what Pro already has, and how to switch a PC over in five minutes.
Key takeaways
- One key, one PC, lifetime license with no renewal fee.
- Enterprise only: Credential Guard, Personal Data Encryption, desktop experience lockdown, 36 months of support per yearly release.
- Already in Pro: BitLocker, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox, Remote Desktop host, Group Policy.
- 64-bit only. Windows 11 has no 32-bit version.
- Emailed instantly after payment. Something went wrong? We’ll help you fix it.
What is Windows 11 Enterprise and who is it for?
Windows 11 Enterprise is the top business edition of Windows 11. It runs the same core system as Home and Pro, then adds security and management features aimed at organizations that handle sensitive data, answer to auditors or manage many PCs centrally. Microsoft states that it builds on Windows 11 Pro rather than replacing it.
Think of it as Pro with a stricter security floor. Small offices with no compliance pressure rarely need it. Companies in finance, healthcare, legal work or public contracts often do, because the extra controls give IT something concrete to show in an audit. Microsoft sells Enterprise mostly through its commercial licensing programs (the per-user E3 and E5 subscriptions). On HypestKey you buy a single key for one PC instead, so a two-person IT team can run Enterprise on the machines that need it without signing a volume agreement.
Which features does Enterprise add on top of Pro?
According to Microsoft’s licensing overview, the operating system features found in Enterprise and missing from Pro are Credential Guard, Personal Data Encryption, Windows experience customization for locked-down desktops and kiosks, and organizational messages. Enterprise also gets 36 months of support for each annual feature update, against 24 months on Home and Pro.
Credential Guard
Credential Guard protects against credential harvesting and pass-the-hash or pass-the-token attacks. It keeps secrets such as NTLM hashes and Kerberos tickets inside an isolated environment protected by virtualization-based security, where malware on the main system cannot read them, even with admin rights. Your CPU needs virtualization support, and Secure Boot should be on.
Lateral movement is how one infected laptop turns into a network-wide incident. An attacker dumps cached credentials, reuses them on the next machine, and repeats. Credential Guard breaks that chain on every PC where it runs. On a domain with older apps, test first: a few legacy tools that rely on NTLMv1 or unconstrained Kerberos delegation stop working once it is on.
Personal Data Encryption
Personal Data Encryption (PDE) encrypts a user’s files and ties the keys to their Windows Hello for Business sign-in. BitLocker protects the whole disk while the PC is off; PDE adds a second layer that keeps protected files locked until that particular user signs in. Shared or frequently lost laptops benefit most.
Locked-down desktops and kiosks
Windows experience customization is a set of policies for controlling what users see and change: Start layout, taskbar, settings pages, plus Shell Launcher and the Unified Write Filter for kiosks and frontline devices. Need a reception PC that runs one app and resets on reboot? That is Enterprise territory.
Longer support per release
Each yearly Windows 11 feature update gets 36 months of servicing on Enterprise, compared with 24 months on Pro. Fewer forced upgrades means fewer weekends spent testing line-of-business apps against a new build.
Tip: Windows Sandbox, BitLocker, BitLocker To Go, Hyper-V and DirectAccess also work on Pro. Some older product pages call them Enterprise-only. Microsoft’s own edition table says otherwise, so do not pay for Enterprise just for those.
Windows 11 Enterprise vs Pro: which one do you need?
Choose Windows 11 Pro if you need BitLocker, Remote Desktop, Hyper-V and Group Policy, and nothing more. Choose Windows 11 Enterprise if you need Credential Guard, Personal Data Encryption, kiosk-style lockdown or the longer 36-month support window. For most small offices Pro is enough; regulated teams and larger fleets usually want Enterprise.
| Feature | Windows 11 Pro | Windows 11 Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| BitLocker and BitLocker To Go | Yes | Yes |
| Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox | Yes | Yes |
| Remote Desktop host, Group Policy, domain join | Yes | Yes |
| DirectAccess, Always On VPN | Yes | Yes |
| Credential Guard | No | Yes |
| Personal Data Encryption | No | Yes |
| Windows experience customization (lockdown, Shell Launcher) | No | Yes |
| Support per annual feature update | 24 months | 36 months |
Unsure? Start with the question auditors ask. If someone will want proof that cached domain credentials cannot be stolen from endpoints, Enterprise answers it directly. If nobody asks, the Windows 11 Pro key does the job for less. For heavy workstation hardware (ReFS, persistent memory, up to 4 CPUs), look at Windows 11 Pro for Workstations instead.
Is Windows 11 Enterprise the same as Enterprise LTSC?
No. Windows 11 Enterprise follows the normal yearly feature update cycle. Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC is a separate product for fixed-function devices such as medical equipment or factory controllers: it receives security fixes only and skips feature updates for years. The two use different keys, so this Enterprise key does not activate LTSC.
Ordinary office desktops belong on regular Enterprise. LTSC drops the Microsoft Store and many inbox apps, and Microsoft does not intend it for general-purpose PCs.
How long is Windows 11 Enterprise supported?
Windows 11 Enterprise follows Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy, so support is tied to the version you run. Per Microsoft Learn, version 24H2 is serviced until October 2027, 25H2 until October 2028 and 26H2 until October 2029. Version 23H2 reaches end of servicing in November 2026, so move those PCs to a newer release now.
Feature updates are free. Your key stays valid across versions: upgrading from 24H2 to 26H2 does not ask for a new license.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 11 Enterprise has the same minimum hardware requirements as every Windows 11 edition: a compatible 64-bit processor with two or more cores at 1 GHz or faster, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI with Secure Boot, TPM 2.0 and a DirectX 12 graphics card. Source: Microsoft’s Windows 11 specifications.
| Component | Minimum (Microsoft) | Practical advice for business PCs |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 1 GHz or faster, 2 or more cores, compatible 64-bit CPU or SoC | Check Microsoft’s supported CPU list; virtualization support needed for Credential Guard |
| RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB for office work, 16 GB with VMs |
| Storage | 64 GB or larger | SSD strongly preferred |
| Firmware | UEFI, Secure Boot capable | Secure Boot turned on |
| TPM | Trusted Platform Module 2.0 | Enabled in firmware (Intel PTT or AMD fTPM) |
| Graphics | DirectX 12 compatible, WDDM 2.0 driver | Any current integrated GPU |
| Display | Larger than 9 inches, 720p, 8 bits per color channel | 1080p |
Full details are on Microsoft’s Windows 11 specifications page. Our own walkthrough of Windows 11 hardware requirements covers TPM and Secure Boot checks step by step. Older home PCs from around 2015 to 2017 usually fail on TPM 2.0 or the CPU list; business-class laptops from the same years often pass.
How do you activate a Windows 11 Enterprise key?
On a PC that already runs Windows 11 Pro, open Settings, go to System, then Activation, select Change product key and enter the 25-character Enterprise key. Windows switches the edition to Enterprise without reinstalling and activates online. Files, apps and settings stay where they are. A restart finishes the switch.
- Back up anything important and make sure the PC is on Windows 11 Pro (Settings > System > About shows the edition).
- Open Settings > System > Activation.
- Next to Change product key, select Change and type the key from our email.
- Confirm the edition upgrade and let Windows restart.
- Return to the Activation page. It should read Windows is activated.
Prefer the command line? Open Terminal as administrator and run:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXslmgr /atoslmgr /dlv
The last command shows the edition and license status. Coming from Windows 11 Home? Move to Pro first or do a clean install, because Home does not switch straight to Enterprise. Setting up a new machine from scratch, install Windows 11 Pro from Microsoft’s media and then enter the Enterprise key as above.

How is the key delivered and what support do you get?
HypestKey emails your Windows 11 Enterprise key instantly after payment, and the key also appears on screen after checkout. You do not need an account with us. Questions about activation go to support@hypestkey.com or the live chat on this site. Something went wrong? We’ll help you fix it.
Look in spam or junk if the email has not arrived. Still nothing after ten minutes? Write to us with your order number and we resend it. Rarely, a fraud check holds an order for a short time. Payment runs through Stripe with card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. We have sold Microsoft licenses since 2020 and delivered more than 30,000 of them, and every key is genuine and activates on Microsoft’s own servers. More editions are in our Windows 11 keys category.
Is Windows 11 Enterprise worth it for a small business?
Usually only when security or compliance demands it. A five-person design studio gets everything it needs from Pro. A three-person accounting firm handling client tax records may want Credential Guard and Personal Data Encryption on every laptop, and the per-PC cost of Enterprise is small next to the cost of one breached mailbox.
My own rule is simple. Laptops that leave the building with sensitive data get Enterprise. Desks that stay in the office and never touch regulated data stay on Pro. Mixed fleets work fine, because both editions join the same domain and take the same Group Policy objects, and Enterprise-only policies simply do nothing on Pro machines.

FAQ
Can I upgrade Windows 11 Pro to Enterprise without reinstalling?
Yes. Open Settings > System > Activation, select Change product key and enter the Enterprise key. Windows switches the edition, restarts and keeps your files and apps.
Can I go straight from Windows 11 Home to Enterprise?
Not directly. Upgrade Home to Pro first, or do a clean install of Windows 11 Pro and then enter the Enterprise key.
Is this a lifetime license or a subscription?
It is a one-time purchase for one PC with no expiry date and no renewal fee. Feature updates such as 25H2 and 26H2 install with the same key.
Does this key activate Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC?
No. LTSC is a separate product with its own keys. This key activates the regular Windows 11 Enterprise edition, which receives yearly feature updates.
Will it run on my older PC?
Only if the PC meets the Windows 11 requirements: a supported 64-bit CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. Run the PC Health Check app to find out.
